Childhood Favorites

I have a lot of fond childhood memories.
This is our niece and nephews last week visiting with us, and we are hoping to create some happy childhood memories for them. I want them to think back to this summer with fond memories - "remember that fun summer we spent at Uncle Brian and Aunt Dionne's place back when we were little?" I would love for that to be something they say to each other some day.

In addition to taking them to lots of fun places, and teaching them lots of fun new activities, we're also introducing them to some of our favorite childhood movies. The movies that they're used to are Transformers and Pixar movies, so we want to introduce them to some old favorites. Mary Poppins, Lady & The Tramp. Last night we watched Home Alone 2 (I know this isn't necessarily a classic, but I loved it when I first saw it, and knew they would too).

What are some of your favorite childhood movies?

Good choice on Mary Poppins. I love childhood memories. When the wink would get really strong, I would go out with an umbrella and try to fly away =)

My favorite movie when I was little was Old Yeller. Now I can't watch it without bawling my eyes out.

You sound like a fantastic aunt for wanting to do that for them! I have two older brothers, so I'm looking forward to the summers where I can be the awesome auntie :)
Mrs. Branflake, I am so with you about the Sandlot! It's a true movie of summer. I'm so glad to see lots of love for Bedknobs and Broomsticks.
Personally, my vote goes toward Heavyweights, a movie about a group of heavier boys at camp. It's very fun and encouraging for anyone, heavy or not!

I enjoyed Gremlins, Neverending Story, the Land Before Time and ET. Did you have them watch Home Alone (#1) first?

i love this post...hmmmm, one space i loved watching childhood movies in was my local library (my mom worked there) and on certain nights, they would play movies, but in the old fashioned way, reel to reel. the library was hot in the summer and people came out in droves to watch them. at the theater, i loved grease, went to see it like a million times ;)

How fun! And what a lovely way to view time spent with your niece and nephews. I'm forever finding that memories impressed of childhood seem to impact me later, they are like little surprises of joy! Secret Garden was a favorite of mine. Afterwards I remembering always looking for little spots of neglected lots and hollows to "claim." There is definitely a charm about that movie.
