Christmas Memories

One month until Christmas.

Photobucket

I love Christmas shopping. Not the long lines or the schlepping around from store to store, but finding the perfect gifts for people. And of course, Christmas isn't all about the gifts - it's ultimately about celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ, but I do love the seasonal festivities and music that pop up this time of year.

I have so many fond Christmas memories from my childhood right up until last year. They are like little video clips in my head that I pull out from time to time and smile just thinking about. Here are a few:

- Watching my brother with Down Syndrome laugh uncontrollably every year while watching "Home Alone 2". This has made it my favorite Christmas movie.
- Brian and I telling each other we loved each other for the first time; this was the first Christmas that we were dating.
- Waking up on a hot Australian summer Christmas morning to "snowy sled tracks" outside that my parents had made with freezer ice scrapings.
- My parents opening up their home to over 30 people each year to come celebrate Jesus' birthday with our family.
- Mum's zany Christmas decorations.
- The day after Christmas in Australia is the big "Boxing Day Test" cricket match. To feel closer to home, my American friends and I played a game of cricket in the freezing cold.
- Perry Como and Nat King Cole Christmas music.
- Visiting old-fashioned toy shops and candy stores back before Playstations and computers were a household item.

What are some of yours?

I can't even put my love for Christmas into words. The only thing I don't like about it is the shopping. It's not that I can't deal with the crowds, but I am the absolute WORST at picking out gifts for people! I can never think of the right thing!

Christmas is my favorite holiday of all time!! Spending one whole day on turkey, shepherd's pie, stuffing, gravy, pumpkin pie, presents, the colors, decorations!! And I love how even if it's really cold, somehow it feels really warm and cozy♥

I wasn't brought up as a Christian, so Christmas to me is all about family, love, and just being thankful and joyful for everything you have!!

I always love your photography, dear! One of my family's Christmas traditions is to watch Home Alone also! I love that movie!

Other things I love about Christmas:
- everyone is home from school/work
- the smell of pine
- peppermint flavored things

i love your christmas memories. its the best time of year, isn't it?

my memories include walks in the snow with my grandparents and their black lab, waking up before anyone else to come down and get the goodies from our stockings, and the way the wind whips around my grandparents house ( i always used to pretend it was santa clause :) )

i also love these photos.. especially the one of the candy canes.

if you want to include this post on the 'love train' let me know ;)

those are such beautiful christmas-y photos. :)

my beautiful christmas memories:
1. spending fun times in church with the christmas musicals/presentations about jesus' birth.

2. the start of my relationship with my boyfriend. it's almost 4 years now! and also, our first christmas spent together! sort of. hehe.

3. shopping for gifts for my loved ones, and giving it to them. that's pretty much the best feeling ever.

4. christmas dinners with the family!

5. walking around, embracing the christmas decorations with the boyfriend.

i love christmas. it's my favorite season/holiday of the year! x

Those sound like great memories! Mine definitely include:

*Listing to the Charlie Brown Christmas cd round the clock
*Putting out the beautiful nativity set my brother suprised me with one Christmas
*And definitely the giving. This year we are doing charity gifts but it too is fun buying "gifts" in our families name for people who desperately need our help.

Christmas time is like Disneyland in the sense that being there and experiencing it always insights wonder and joy. It truly IS the most wonderful time of the year! And obviously our blessed Jesus' birth!

Thanks for sharing!

Kind Regards,
Nicole

Sweet memories, Dionne! I love the cozy feel of Christmas, the traditions, the way my mom decks out their house, going antiquing/thrifting for vintage Christmas-y things...I could go on and on! :)

As I look back (waaaay back) on Christmas, I am astounded to realize my parents put up the tree on Christmas Eve after we had gone to bed. So when we got up, there was the tree and the gifts. They must have been up all night!

Beautiful post... I cannot believe Christmas is really a month away. One of my favorite memories is sitting around the white-lit Christmas tree with my family at night, with apple cinnamon potpourri simmering away on the roaring fireplace, knitting away. Simply perfect. :)

Thanks for mentioning my giveaway!

what wonderful memories! my fave Christmas memories are from my childhood... when my grandparents were still around and my extended family still got together. but I remember us singing Christmas carols around the Christmas tree and, in Danish fashion, we did that as we "danced" in a circle, hands clasped, around the tree. I've never met anyone else who has done that! :) but that's one of my favorite memories. I still love listening to Christmas music. and I also love setting up the nativity set every year, the one that my grandma painted.

Aw, I love that you have so many great memories of Christmas! Your parents creating snow tracks is ADORABLE! You guys must have been sooo happy that morning!

Cricket in the cold sounds like a brilliant idea. Get snow involved and that would really change things up.
