Math Turned Pretty

Math was always my least favorite subject. I couldn't stand it in school.

I would get straight A's in everything in school and college, but in Math I would get C's. Ugh!

.....................Photobucket

I would dread going to any Math Classes. The time I sat in that classroom trickled by so slowly. Still to this day I have dreams that I failed my Math classes and can't graduate out of high school.

But then came along Mrs Dazo. Itsy Dazo has done for me the impossible. She has made Math pretty. Her store is a trove of lovely jewelry, and included among her fanciful fare are lovely Abacus Neckaces. The minute I saw them on the Etsy Front Page, I fell in love with these cute little darlings. I loved how they make a subject I loathed so much in school be a pretty accessory.

Itsy was an Art Director at an ad agency when she felt it was time to leave the industry. She loved jewelry, and hence opened up her lovely store. She is inspired by people who take big leaps of faith to go after their dreams, and also people with generous spirits. Her home in Singapore makes her thankful for what she has - the safety, the trees, the food she eats, the friend she's made. Her gratitude for everyday life is reflected in the jewelry she sells - with pieces celebrating Nature, Love and Friendship.

When asked my favorite question - Itsy told me that her favorite dessert is a moist slice of Dark Chocolate and Prune Cake. That makes me like this girl even more! And you'll like her too - she is generously giving away TWO Abacus necklaces of your color choice. So on Sunday I will be announcing two winners instead of one. To enter, please leave a comment here telling me what was your least favorite subject in school and why, and also check out her store to tell me what color Abacus Necklace you would choose if you won.

*Gasp* you hated math?? I'm sorry. I loved math, I actually have a bachelor's degree in mathematics. If you were still in school I'd offer to help!

My least favorite subject was biology. For the life of me I could not remember all how many muscles or all the lil names for things. Everything else I had A's in, except for Bio. lol.

Those abacus necklaces are so unique!! I would absolutely love one!! It'd be awesome to wear on a job interview for a mathematical position. The red one is my favorite! =)

My least favorite subject(s) in school was Math with History a close second. I am still not very good with Math but I am in love with History now. I soak it up like a sponge. It is so fascinating to me now.

My favorite abacus color is the light blue. Her items are so unique!

I LOVE THE ROSE PENDANT!!!

I'd say my least favorite was always social studies, which is just hilarious because now I love it, and my major is European studies

I love the blue Abacus necklace!

Let's see... I really hated Physics in high school. It was a nightmare. And in college, I barely survived through Statistics.

I always liked Science the least...once in High School especially. Chem was THE WORST. EVER. I slept more in that class than ever before, and would often ditch it to hang out in the French 2 class that same period. Mind you, I didn't take French, but was friends with the teacher who would just let me chill in there and take part in the lessons. Even though, again, I did not take French. HATED Chem, passed with a D. I think the teacher just felt sorry for me.

I loved Math in grade school and enjoyed it in Middle School. Then as a freshman I hated it so very much. Then as a Sophomore...I ended up with DJ, and math became something awesome again. But then again...you know why. I miss that man, and how awesome he was at teaching a subject few cared about. How kind, gentle, and funny he was. How he used to pinch my elbow...Man...Memories.
...

Where was I? Oh yes! Chem still sucks, Math was only great with DJ, and the Green Necklace is my favorite. (Of course.) :-D

I'm a math hater, too! But you're right, those necklaces are awesome!

I didn't like math too but only because I did not understand it. When I got to college I had some great professors and also did some work with a high school math teacher in her classroom and it all just clicked. I ended up getting a BA Math! So second place would have to be history -- I loathe reading ;P I would lOVE the blue necklace!

I feel like I wrote this post! I hated math, too - only C's I ever made in school. And I have nightmares about failing math classes still, too!

Are we twins? ;0)

I love, love the red necklace!

I loved math...but for some odd reason my accounting class drove me insane! Give me Calculus any day! =)

I was hoping she'd have an orange abacus in her shop, but I'll have to chose the light blue instead. =)

...yeeeeah. Math and i didn't mix well. if we were an illustration, we would be duelists glaring at each other with beady little eyes as the morning mist settled around us. i'd have an advanced calculator gripped in my sweaty palm...and Math would have a world problem dangling from its holster...

What a fantastic piece! I love these (but just like you I HATED math.) But I think I could love an abacus, especially the light blue one...I think they look like jewels, don't you?

And I don't think it's any secret that ART always was and forever will be my favorite subject. But I did get to take Psychology in HS, and I fell in love with that too. Put them together and what do you get? Art Therapy!

My least favourite subject was definetly anything sport related. I would dread Phys Ed day...HATED IT! I'm pretty sure I had your dad for maths at some stage, and he definetly taught me Accounting, he was great! Funny that you didn't like it, when he taught it!
I love those necklaces though, very cute! I love the red one....

Oh Dionne, what a great giveaway. I don't enter them very often, but this one is so cool!

When I was reading about your dreams of failing math class and not graduating....I said "OMG!" I used to have recurring dreams/nightmares about failing math class and not being able to graduate as well!

Now the funny thing is that I was very good in math, but I would skip class. The guilt came back to me, because I had the dreams in my late twenties - I had already graduated 10 years earlier!!!

Least fave subject - boring history!!!

I would love to win the black abacus - so chic!!!

I didn't like math either! however, I did pretty well. I actually took AP Calculus my senior year of high school and amazingly-- unbelievably!!-- I scored a 4 on my AP test, which meant the best. thing. ever. I didn't have to take a single math class in college! yippee!

still, though I did ok in math, it never came easy to me like it did for my bestie, who really actually likes math. she got As and I usually got Bs.

I also hated taking chemistry, mostly because it is kind of like math! haha. those damn moles. I could NOT understand them. that is where I got my first ever C-- in chemistry. I switched teachers and got a B... but those moles still haunt me :)

good thing I'm a writer.

Chase your dreams and have a generous spirit... two very important characteristics!

I'd have to agree that math was probably my least favorite. I'm a creative girl -- art and literature were my favorite classes.

The vintage cameo pendant is quite lovely, no?

My least favorite subject was math. I loved geometry though, and was lucky enough to have some good math teachers who really helped me make sense of it all! I remember a specific math class I took that was just awful. I thought it was going to be interesting because they mentioned philosophy in the course description, but it was a really intense logic course. Ahhh! The horror!

Very cute necklaces. The yellow one would be my pick :)

Itsy sounds like such a sweetheart!! Math was always my least favorite subject. Like you, I got straight A's in everything else and aways those darn B'S and C's in math. Oddly enough, I now work in an area of finance and number crunching. Go figure! I love the green abacus necklace.

I've always hated chemistry cos I never got good grades. I realize now that if the teacher had made it more interesting, I would have loved it!

I would love to win either the Red or Royal Blue Abacus Necklace. They're both the prettiest! Thanks!

Well, as a matter of fact, my favorite subject is math! I loooove math! Sometimes I'd do my husband (then boyfriend's) math problems for him if I got too bored with my own homework. I liked him (and math) that much.

Bekah said...

I would love to enter!! My least favorite subject is definitely math. Most definitely.

And the blue one is SO pretty. That's the one I would choose if I won. :)

My teacher that I had for Algebra 1 started my dislike for math... and after that class, my love for anything math has just gone downhill. Oh, the worst, is when you have to do math in public! However, these abacus necklaces are darling... and I would pick the green or yellow one. Gotta stick with the favorite colors!

what a great fun giveaway!
