Tuesday night, yesterday, and today I have been packing away bits of my life into boxes. Albums, plates, recipe books, things that represent me and Brian. Photos from when we first became friends, notes that he had sent me when we were long-distance dating. Two copies of many books, because we would both read the same book and talk about it together over the phone when we couldn't see each other.

Humans are funny. We need a lot to feel fulfilled. Animals move burrows, nests, homes all the time, and they do it all without a u-haul. I like that I have things that are important to me. A lot of people say "Simplify Your Life!" "Get Rid of all that Extra Stuff!". While I am not a packrat in a messy way, I do have things that I keep because they are important to me. And I like it that I have things that are special to me.
On a completely different note, my lovely aunt that I only just mentioned in my last post sent me a package that arrived yesterday. It was a box of chocolate! Two pounds of it! The only thing better than chocolate is UNEXPECTED chocolate! Aren't you jealous that I have an Aunt that sends me chocolate surprise gifts?

(PS - I am now a columnist for The Handmade News. It would mean a lot to me if you would stop by my first article and leave me some feedback in the comments there!)

Aww congrats on being a columnist for The Handmade News!!! And how exciting that you're moving to a new place although packing kida sucks (well, I'm lazy bird, so I hate packing) - 2 pounds of chocolate.. Maybe you can send some to me! hehe
Love you!
xoxo
Good luck with your move! It helps that you 2lbs of chocolate to keep the energy and sugar high going! ;)
unexpected chocolate is the most delicious chocolate!
I want that chocolate!
Hey, I have tried twice to leave a feedback in your comments, but I don't see it. (I even signed up, so I could leave a comment there..)
oh my! i've done so much packing and unpacking over the years! i don't really like except for the things you forgot you had and come across with. a picture, a letter, an old Tee,a lost tweezer(...)
um YES on the jealousy. you're a lucky girl!
and COOL about your new gig! i'm off to check out your article :)
Great post! Wait until you have 50 years of memories!
So sweet that your aunt sent you that chocolate.

Good luck with the move! Enjoy the chocolates too :)
What a sweet surprise! Good luck with the move!
You apparently have the best Auntie in he world!
I just went over and read your first article and left a comment. Great job Dionne; you deserve to be recognized!

Congrats on the new gig and good luck with the move! I SO need to streamline my house. Ugh.
i feel the same way you do about getting rid of things, darling! except i'm very very very bad about letting anything go. i am a clutter bug!
congratulations on being a columnist for The Handmade News! they are lucky to have you!
xo-
p.s. i hope my nieces and nephews blog about their "aunt anna" one day! what a great aunt you have!
LOVED the column! You are a loving person finding the good in screaming children ( I teach kindergarten!) ...the French must have helped a little! (he he) I enjoy the way you write-is it what you do for a living? (I've always wondered!
Oh Heavens yes, I'm the same way, and it's often the oddest stuff that means the most - not necessarily the costly items. I used to feel guilty about it, but have since latched onto something the Visual Vamp said on her blog about the "stuff" we keep around us: "It's such a human way to live."
omg yes, I do envy you! You just reminded me that I too have an aunty who loves to send chocolate out of the blue, but now she has her own kids and I've grown up, maybe she thinks I'm all too old to have chocolate some more? =| I hope she doesn't think so, because well... I still love chocolate the way I did years ago. haha.
oyy packing, moving. tough work and not fun!
I am totally a pack rat and I DO need to simplify my life! I hate moving because I always have so so much to pack. but on the other hand, I think it is important to keep special, meaningful things too. certain items are like memory keepers and you wouldn't want to throw those away. anyhoo, good luck with the move!
oh, and I like any unexpected gift, and I would never turn down chocolate! such a nice auntie you have!
Good luck with the move (one of my least favorite things ever). I think I would need twelve pounds of chocolate to make moving feel better. I am jealous of your aunt though.
I hope your move goes well, Dionne. I still can't think about my last BIG move without shuddering! It was awful! At least you've got chocolate! :)
Moving...oh so tiring. We'll be doing the same in the next 2-4 months. I'm one of those less is more people, but I definitely have sentimental nearly historical things from relatives that I hold onto dearly. Good luck with your move and congrats on the writing gig! That's awesome :)
Hope moving goes well! That chocolate looks so yummy!
I'm very sentimental. Some things you just HAVE to keep.
Oh, the chewy chocolates look so yummy!
Good luck with the move! And you're right--unexpected chocolate is amazing. Yum!
Good luck w/ the move + congrats on columnist gig! Have a great weekend!
can't wait to check-out your column...on my way!
oh moving is always such a chore, but unpacking is like christmas again. :) love the chocolate box...where is the chocolate from? which company? looks divine...happy weekend! :)
Best of luck in the cleaning/packing/moving process! I moved not 2 months ago so you definitely have all my sympathy! I would have to agree with you that the most difficult part is realizing how much stuff you have but not actually wanting to part with a great deal of it. But, like with everything else in life, you really have to pick and choose sometimes.
Oh, and I'm so jealous of your surprise chocolates. *eyes go green with envy*
I hope them move is going well! And can I please have some of those chocolates?! Come on...pretty please??
I loved your article and I'm up for the challenge!! Great work.
Holy cats! You sure have a lot on your plate right now!!! But, there's always a bit more room for a chocolate or two...or three! ;)
m ^..^
(my verification word is "dazed"...that's how moving always makes me feel!!! :)
I loved the column and your opera glasses on this blog. I love the opera!. . . and chocolate. :)
Can I tell you how much I love that about the books? So sweet...
Now I'm off to check out your post - congrats!
