Romance and a Giveaway

Ain't love grand?

Don't you just love that feeling? Your hearts swells up so much that it feels like it could explode out of your chest, and each heartbeat feels like the pounding of a drum. That giddy feeling of romance washes over you, and in that moment the whole world seems to stand still. You forget everything else - the stresses of your job, any mundane routines you might have, the list of things you need to do... they all drop away like flies. All that you feel and see is in that very moment. Ahhhhh love. Blissful, romantic, giddy, happy-go-lucky, lets-take-the-plunge love. LOVE.----

I love the romance of love. How you want to do anything and everything to show your love and broadcast it to whoever will listen. Don't get me wrong, I love the security and stability and every-day occurrences of love - but in this post I am talking about the grand gestures, the swoon-worthy, seemingly monumental actions of love - the Sleepless in Seattles, the Casablancas, the Gone With The Winds. I hear a lot of people say that love like this can't last, that couples can't sustain that euphoric feeling, and that it eventually becomes a comfortable friendship and not an exciting romance. I have to say that I disagree. I think it can be both. Brian and I do have a comfortable friendship. But I feel like I am best friends with a super-hottie. That feeling has not died down. I still feel excited and giddy and blissful around him. Often on Sunday nights I get all teary-eyed knowing that he has to go to work the next day.

I am blogging about this because my parents were here for 2 weeks visting us. And they have that romantic, exciting, passionate love for each other still, so I know it's not only a newlywed thing. Watching them is really a beautiful thing. Looking at them, you would think they just started dating, they have that excited, happy, fresh look on their faces when they interact. I love it.

Yes, I am such a romantic at heart. I think that's why I am drawn to the lovely things at NuvoNova. Clara has a lovely Etsy store filled with items that remind me of romantic whimsy.

She has gorgeous initial heart necklaces, romantic clothing, and such enchanting little note books and pouches. Looking through her shop makes me feel like i am stepping back to a more romantic era or place - where men would serenade at a window, or yell out in the streets "I love you!" When Clara told me that she is inspired by the 1920's, and that Clara Bow is her muse, I recognized that in her store right away, along with her love for vintage fabrics and old films. She studied Fashion Design at university, and after writing a chunky 8,000 word dissertation discovered a love for writing. Please be sure to check out her lovely blog here! And speaking of romance... what could be more romantic than her favorite dessert of Strawberries and Cream??!!

Clara is sharing one of her goodies with us! To be in the running to win either an initial necklace, or two sets of rose pouches, please visit NuvoNova and comment here leaving me the link to which goody you'd like to win - either an initial necklace, or the two rose pouch sets you'd like. And if you have a romantic story, I'd love to hear it!

love is like a fairytale. I know what you mean when you say that love like that can't last, but it can, you just need to try hard at it and trust God that everything he is in the relationship too! :)

Awww, it's sweet that you and B are so loving together. And even sweeter that your parents are the same way!

I hope Steve and I keep that giddy love, but we have so far and we're going on 3 1/2 years together, so I think we'll be ok. I do love that silly man of mine.

I'd love to win one of her necklaces! How lovely!

What a nice post and giveaway! I would love the J necklace/pouch: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=26779573

My parents are divorced and both remarried. Even though they aren't together anymore, I love seeing my mom with my stepdad- they have been married for 3 years. Helping her plan her wedding and being her maid of honor was so special. And while my parents love story ended not so great, the new love stories they created with their new spouses show that you can find love again and at any age.

aw, what a cute post! I try so hard to be a cynical bad-ass...and then I watch Sleepless in Seattle or wish I was cuddling with my long-distance boyfriend. :)

The initial necklaces are adorable!!

Thanks Dionne for hosting my giveaway, what a beautiful post .. and yes, strawberries and cream are such a romantic dessert, I never realised until I read your entry! .. I'd always associated it with sweaty tennis matches!

Lindsey said...

Dionne, I love your explanation of loving love. I'm reading Crazy Love by Francis Chan right now, and he reminds us of something I've been convicted of often. You know that feeling you (still)get about B and I still get about Jon? I think you're right, that it doesn't have to go away, and I think that's what God so desires for us to feel about him!

Last fall I got into a car accident because I was driving home and God really wanted me to just hang out with him, but I was bored, so I called Jon and just wanted to talk, well, we didn't even have anything to say. I didn't stop fast enough because I was distracted, but even before that I heard God say, I want you to want to talk to ME like that! And he drove his point home with a Wham-o! Anyway, you should read Crazy Love, if you haven't already.

And count me in for your give away, I think that while I usually prefer the utilitarian pretties, I'm in the mood for something superfluous and shiny. So I dig the necklace over the bags.

Kotori said...

I love reading your posts because I feel like it's what I write about my husband. Aren't we lucky girls? I think so!

And this giveaway is fabulous! I love that initial necklace... too cute!

Katie said...

So sweet. I'm a newlywed, so I'm definitely all about the romance. Hope I always will be! I know that the lovey-dovey feeling does require some conscious effort as time goes on, and I'm willing to invest in that!

Anyway, my new last name begins with a G. I'd wear this vintage heart intial necklace with my new last name proudly:

:) Thanks for the giveaway!

I love the initial necklace! COunt me in for that!

A romantic thing happened to me recently. The boyfriend took me to Craft, an amazing restaurant, and "Happy Birthday Kristen" was written in chocolate on my dessert. It was a thoughtful and simple surprise because he never mentioned it was my birthday to the staff when we were there.Clearly he did when he made the reservation. :o) The picture of the dessert is actually on my post about the restaurant. I only wrote it a few days ago so it should be easy to find!

Totally agree . . . married only 1.5 years but it still feels like we're dating and giddy and so anxious to just be together. I love that we're so in love every day, but I also love that we're best friends and just super comfortable around each other. I get so excited when the husband gets home from work, I do a little happy dance that makes him laugh and it just sets the our moods to happy to matter what. Nothing is better than true love!

and speaking of love . . . I love the sweet initial necklaces, that's my pick for sure!!

umama said...

How cute is that story about your parents... That's what I want- not that annoyed, tired, ughhh look on my face I see some couples walk around with!

And as for the giveaway- the poppy print! So cute.. though I would also love the personalized ones!

i love love :)
I met my boyfriend on a blind date 3 years ago and I still get giddy and excited to kiss him when he gets home from work. He admitted to me the other day that he loves how I always stop what I'm doing to kiss him hello. (And if you knew my bf, you'd realize how special it is that he admitted to that out loud. haha)

And I love everything in that shop! I especially love the K necklace http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=26778499 (and the adorable vanilla and pink polka dotted tote is lovely, too!)

Awww..I love this post. Mr. B and I had a young love...and we still do. This year marks our 10th year of marriage already, and I can still say that my tummy flutters when I am with him. I must admit...he gets more giddy than I do though...and that makes me soo happy!

What a great giveaway! I would love to win the necklace with the K initial!

:O she has T necklace initial and it's vintage looking too! How can I not try my luck? And you want me talking about romance? Can I just copy-paste my whole blog posts here? lol.

But there's always one thing I want to try, which I think is quite romantic, maybe you should try it firstt since you have Brian by your side (or maybe you've done it alr?)

I want to give a surprising little peck on the cheek right after I finished my popsicle, I thought that would be fun, and with a innocent face asking, "is it cold?" gah, me and my imagination talking here.

Now only I envy you and B, I start to envy you parents too... haha :P in a good way, don't worry x)

How about this: I found out I'm going to be relocating to a new state, and I told my fiance he could stay here, and I'd come back when our wedding comes to live there. He got all teary and said, "No, I'll come with you, because you're my life." He's a sweetie.

What a cute post...I love so much romantic stories! And I think that mine is a cute one: when I met my boyfriend, I was in a trip to Belgium...the problem was that was from near Montreal! But we loved (and still) each other so much, that I worked one year and a half to make enough money so I could go live in Brussels, while he was searching for a school where I could finish my studies. And here we are, 3 years later, happier than ever and me studying at Brussels university :-)

That's why, if I'm the lucky one for this giveaway, that I would love an initial necklace with the letter "B" (his name is Benoit^^) Love your shop!

Wehaf said...

I love the initial necklaces, but never wear anything gold - only silver. So I would love some rose pouches. :)

My boyfriend is romantic in the most unexpected and specific ways; he does things that are special to me, not generically romantic. I love him for that, and for so many other reasons.

here is my pick:

I hope I win!
I don't have too many traditional "romance" storys but my boyfriend and I met in high school and had always really loved each other, but it wasn't until six years later that we actually decided to go on a date. on that date he told me about all the times that he saw me around (we went to separate high schools) and he even remembered where we first spoke (at a skateboarding contest) before we officially met, I always thought he was way too cool for me- turns out he noticed me first! now we've been dating for six years and love each other so much! mushy, I know.

Then he pulled out a box and I was like, ohmigosh, is he going to propose to me? haha. But he ended up saying "would you be my girlfriend?" It was really cute. + funny.

And I am likewise still crazy in love with my husband. It's been 12 years, and he still makes my toes curl. Eeek, now I'm getting giddy thinking about him...he brings me little presents almost every day, and brushes my hair, and generally makes me feel like the most important person in the world.
