Friends, Books and a Giveaway

Who says you need to be a kid to like children's books?

I have blogged here before about how I collect Children's books. I could spend hours in the Children's section of the book store or the library, eating up all the lovely illustrations and exploring all the different tales. My latest favorite is the "No, David!" series by David Shannon. It's a series of books about this endearing little boy who is constantly getting himself into trouble. I fell in love with the quirky, childlike illustrations.

When Brian and I are ready to have children, our kids are going to have the cutest book collection ever! And how cute would this book mark look in a lovely little book?

Isn't it adorable? It is a Felt Birdie bookmark by the talented Lillian over at The Cupcake Girls. And it could be yours!

The Cupcake Girls is a whimsical little store, filled with goodies that you would expect to find in a lovely children's book - cute felt owls, sewing pins topped with gorgeous little flowers, and so many charming little pieces. Lillian has set up a dreamland of a store, and I can't even tell you how cute it is, it's something you need to see for yourself. She is inspired by anything out there that catches her eye, whether it be a unique color combo, or a baby bunny she sees on the side of the road. All of it inspires her when creating the little bits and pieces that I have fallen in love with in her store. And like me, she likes lovely stationery, and a good dessert - her favorite would be a good old vanilla milkshake with a slice of apple pie.

For your chance to win this darling little bookmark, leave a comment here telling me what was your favorite book as a child. I will announce the winner at the end of the week.

And one more thing - I am guest blogging over at The Stationery Place today. Like Lillian and myself, Lyndsey loves stationery. So much that she has a blog dedicated to showing all her stationery finds. I met her face-to-face over coffee last month when I was in California, and had a lovely time getting to know her better. Then we shopped together at Paper Source - and we all know that friends that shop together stay together! So please stop on by my post over at The Stationery Place and leave some comment love!

And I also loved the Beverly Cleary books but my fave among those was "Ramona and her Sister"...that little Ramona was always getting into something. I also loved a book called "The Favorite Place"...I have the hard cover of it on my book shelf and I remember that I bought it at a book fair at my school's library for 25 cents. I think I was not even 7 years old. I was and still am obsessed with books.

Aw, what a sweet bookmark! I have a few books going right now that would be complimented nicely by it.

My favourite book as a child was The Little Prince. I loved it being read to me, and when I could read I read it to myself a lot. I still pick it up and flip through the pages when I see it in a bookstore. I especially love the drawing of a snake with an elephant inside him.

Mmmm...PaperSource! I love that place so much. I won't even let myself go in right now because I don't absolutely NEED anything. Too dangerous! :)

As a teacher I recognize the beauty of kids picture books, something that I overlooked through my college years. When I was young I loved "Where the Wild Things Are" by Maurice Sendak. Since teaching I also have adopted The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein because of all the environmental lessons it supports.

You both look really cute in that picture! I'll definitely be stopping by your guest post.

Anyway, my favorite book as a child was definitely "A Bad Case of Stripes."

My little sister also loves the "No, David" series by the way. :)

I always loved the Amelia Bedelia series! My mom used to take us to the library a lot, and I knew exactly which corner to go to. I'd plop myself down and just read away.

maggisaar said...

One of my favorite books as a kid was "The Gypsy Girl's New Shoes", because the Gypsy's girl was named Maggi, and spelled it like I do! (No E. Evil E.)

I reread it not too long ago and was rather smitten with it all over again. I'm so glad I still have it.

That book mark is adorable!

I can only choose ONE book? My mother read us practically every children's book under the sun. I loved getting lost in the stacks as a child when she'd take us to the library at least once a week.

My favorite was We Help Mommy, though I think there was something psychological about why my mother always read it to us. Sending us subliminal messages? :)

My favourite book as a child was The Going to Bed Book by Dick Bruna. I loved it so much and took it everywhere, my mother kept it all these years and I recently rediscovered it stuck together with sellotape, heavily stained with baby food and hardly holding together! But as I loved it so much she couldn't bear to throw it away even though it was looking pretty horrid!
