The Book of Me

There are lots of things I have shared with you on here, and then there are things that I realized that I haven't talked about at all.
Carol from Everday Delights posted on her blog ten things about her, and tagged me to play along. I tried to come up with a list of things that I haven't told you about, so here are few quick notes from some of the pages of The Book of Me:

1. I don't know how to whistle. I have tried and tried and tried - to no avail. All I do is sputter and spit all over the place whenever I try.

2.
It's no secret that I enjoy coffee. But coffee to me is not a stimulant. I treat it like a dessert. Lots of creamer/milk. But despite my love for coffee, I was able to stay off it for a whole year! Even from iced coffee (which I don't think feels the same as regular hot coffee, because it's even more dessert-ish, so therefore harder to avoid).
Photobucket
3. I have been a Big Sister for the Big Brothers Big Sisters organization for five years now. It's such a rewarding experience.

4. My Grandfather was an uber-famous actor in the Philippines. He always played the villains, haha.
Photobucket
5. This would be my most shameful note on this list - I first started having strong feelings for Brian when I was dating someone else!!! (but no, i was a good girl - i didn't do anything about it - i didn't date Brian until after 6 months of me being broken up with the other person. And no, I didn't dump the other person for Brian - I didn't even think I had a chance with Brian).

6. I love grocery shopping. I could spend hours exploring each aisle.

7. I used to be into poetry - a number of my poems have been published in books and newspapers.

8.
I've done a fair bit of traveling in my life. I've been to Australia (duh, that's where I was born), the U.S. (duh, that's where I live!), Canada, Switzerland, Greece, Singapore, Japan, Germany, the Philippines, Austria, Malaysia, and then two other countries that don't really count (because I only saw the inside of their airports) are France and New Zealand.

9.
My clothes-shopping expeditions only involve buying clothes that DON'T require ironing. I can't stand ironing, it's the worst of all chores.

10.
Two other professions that I would love to take up some day would be a Pastry Chef and a Wedding Planner.

Photobucket

I would love to know a few tid-bits about you all! But I want to know things you haven't blogged about. You could tell me ten things, you could tell me two - I don't mind. So now it's your turn to spill!!!

(PS - My new favorite blog is Missed Connections. Tracy, when I saw this, I thought of you!)
(And Pixelhazard - I have been trying to comment on your posts twice now, but your word verification thing won't work for me! And I can't even email you to tell you, because I don't see your email address on your blog. I hope you see this!)

What a fun list, Dionne -- thanks for sharing! A famous grandpa... that's awesome! Your travel list is enviable. I've only been to western Europe, Mexico, and the US (which doesn't really count since I live here). Time to start traveling! ;)

(And I can't whistle either... always try, but always fail.)

Such a great list!

How do you create this beautiful collage of images?

Thanks!

I feel the same way about coffee. It doesn't keep me awake even remotely, I just love how it tastes. With sugar and milk.

I think my dream job someday would be to open a little cafe... with cupcakes. Cupcakes and maybe cookies and coffee and games to play while you enjoy them. It'll never actually happen (not sure if I really want it to) but it's a fun little fantasy.

and that's a very cool list! I love that one about your grandpa and poems! So cool that some of your poems have been published! :D

I love ironing. If you'll be my pastry chef, I'll do your ironing.

1 - I love to grocery shop too!
2 - I hate to iron! Thankfully my husband loves it, he L-O-V-E-S to iron. Go figure!
3 - My great-great-(great?)grandfather invented the Christmas Tree Lights.
4 - I dream of being a published author someday, I am writing a novel currently.

I'm seriously brain dead this morning and can't think of anything else :( haha!

Fun! I like learning about people. Two things I haven't shared on my own blog:
1. I spent my high school years with a half shaved head and purple hair.
2. I am obsessed with mini white pumpkins. No idea why, but OBSESSED.

Carol said...

Yay! I'm so glad you did this too! :) Ok, I can't whistle either! I have tried and tried too! And I love grocery shopping too! I seriously could spend hours at Whole Foods, just looking at everything. And so cool about your grandfather!

I can't whistle, I love love love coffee the way you do, I love to travel - it fuels me!, I hate to iron more than any other household chore..

Brilliant idea D! I'll play your game.

1. I wasn't the pretty, popular girl. Awkward, scrappy, and bizarre were words associated with the teen me.
2. I stood in line for Space Mtn. at Disney, next to Dustin Diamond, AKA Samuel "Screech" Powers.
3. My dream is to visit Paris.
4. I failed the written exam for my drivers test two times prior to passing.
5. I cheat on board games if my team isn't winning.
6. I envy naturally straight hair.
7. I frequently have deja vus
8. I believe in soul mates.
9. I wish I was of Japanese decent.
10. Yazzie {My Last Name} means Little in Navajo.

Michele said...

This is very cool! I agree with the ironing thing but that comes second to cleaning the bathroom, a chore I can't avoid.

1. I can be very outspoken and outgoing but if I'm in a situation I'm not comfortable in I'm very quiet and counting the hours and minutes until I'm out of there.

2. I'm afraid of becoming a mother and losing myself.

3. I love to sing (even though I'm awful) and especially love singing along to country music.

4. I don't really believe that men and women can truly be just friends. Someone always seems to have some sort of feelings even when they don't know it.

5. I want to make cooking a career but I'm afraid at failing at the one thing I think I'm good at.

Okay, that's enough! lol

I love this ten things about me blurb. I made it an effort to add a list of ten things each week. It's interesting how much you learn about someone. I also, can not whistle. Sigh.

SK said...

Those are some pretty good tidbits about yourself! I always was curious about being a big sister... I don't know why I haven't taken the extra step. Maybe I will do it now :)

And wow you have a diverse background!

p.s. thank you for sharing "missed connections" it is so cute!

LBB said...

Interesting list! A poet, huh? I can totally see that now by what a great writer you are & the vivid imagination you seem to have. The tidbit about your Grandpa is so neat too! I agree with you on coffee, except I like mine black and very strong...except for mochas and lattes. Yum! I totally hate grocery shopping for the most part. And I think it would be really fun to own a cute little flower shop someday with a mix of gardeny things and pretty greeting cards!

Phoenix said...

a) first of all, your ten facts are awesome (esp. about being a Big Sister -- that is so kind of you!), and I'm kind of tripping a bit since #6, #7, #8, and #9 are almost identical to my experiences. (Okay, the names and people in #6 are obviously different, and I wasn't born in Australia but did travel around most of Europe while I lived in London).

But: grocery shopping, check, never iron clothes, check, love of poetry, check.

So cool!

9) wish i was an artist, photographer or an amish wife with 10+ kids...
10) working on something to make my kids+dh proud...

I started liking Jordan when I was still with my ex too. I did the exact same thing, stayed with my ex because I didn't want to break up with him for someone else. We broke up eventually, Jordan and I were still friends, and after quite a few months we ended up dating. And I'm so glad we did!!!

Hm, what can I say, Dionne?

I used to coreograph dance numbers, swing set routines, and plays with my cousin, and try to charge our family members to watch.

I was a girl scout until 8th grade, but I couldn't tell you how to light a fire.

Sweetest Dionne! Thanks for stopping by, it was lovely to have a Dionne comment again. I'm gone for a couple of more weeks of vacation, but then it's back to blogging as usual. Very limited internet access here so have to run, just wanted to say hi!

Oh, and I do think you'd make an excellent wedding planner!

Hey there, I was just blogwalking when I came across your lovely blog.

What, wait...your grandpa was a famous star here? Oh my, you must be really proud?!

Oh I agree with you when you mentioned what's inside France's airport. I kind of expected more from it as well. It's a good thing Paris is such a lovely country, it compensated their mediocre airport.

I adore that you use an incredibly small font.

Heh, and I thought I used a small font...

I don't think I've ever ironed anything since we got married...and before that, maybe I iron something once or twice. Don't even remember what it was.

Your coffee shots are making me consider taking up coffee-drinking as hobby. I did have some mochas when we were on vacation at the beginning of the month and they were SO good!!

Thanks for stopping by the other day--next time we'll have to make sure you can actually enter one of my giveaways.

Aw I love grocery shopping too! And I am a bit of a wanderer as well, born in Malaysia but raised in Ireland, and have been fortunate enough to go on long haul trips to Hawaii and New Zealand. I'm not great with pastry yet but I am a baking addict, especially at the moment while I'm baking for a local village market. As for something new... well... I have a II Dan Black Belt in Taekwon-Do, and up until recently I was teaching children the art too. :)
