Pretty City

(Quick note before I continue with my post: Today at midnight is the last day to sign up for the Summerly Swap - please sign up here if you want to participate. Also, people in Southern California, if you want to come to the Bloggers Lunch, please mention it here and I can give you more info).

I love to travel. I caught the travel bug when I was a little girl. My family would go on an overseas vacation every second year - so I got used to hurrying through airports, bursting with anticipation, wondering what I would discover at each new country I visited. Each city has it's own charm, it's own personality. - and I am always drawn to places that have a mix of the old and the new.

Pasadena, California is one of those cities. It is the first city in California that I really fell in love with, and is one of my favorite cities in the world. It's a menagerie of beautiful old buildings with sweet little cafes and delicatessens wedged among these amazing displays of grand architecture. That's why I decided to move there 7 years ago.

I love admiring the ornate churches, and watching all sorts of people scatter across the streets on their individual missions. It's a pretty Little city that has Big city appeal - you get the best of both worlds. I am so excited that I will be heading back there for a visit next month - I can't wait!

What are some of your favorite cities?

Hi Dionne! Thanks for commenting on my blog; I always love it when new people stop by!

I was just reading about your swap and it sounds awesome. I'd love to participate. I'll go now and comment on that post.

Have a great day :D

I've never been to Pasadena, but it certainly sounds lovely.

One of my fave US cities is San Francisco, and if we're heading across the pond, I'd have to say the 5 fishing villages that make up Cinque Terre, Italy. To be there is to be in heaven on earth.

I've never been to Pasendena but I do love ornate churches. Have you ever been to Santa Fe? It seems like exactly the type of place that you would love - and it's just a jump from where you are on Southwest Airlines...

I like the Colorado Street bridge in Pasadena.

Edinburgh is one of my favorite cities aesthetically speaking. I wouldn't want to spend tons of time there, but it's cool for a few days. .

Dionne, I am SO GLAD you like the music! Don't feel ignorant for not knowing who they are because they literally formed like a month ago. Their bassist happens to be my best friend's boyfriend (so yes, that post was a SHAMELESS plug).

If you like their stuff, definitely check out their website because there's even more great stuff there! And feel free to spread the word about them. I've had a ton of friends start "bands" but this is the first band I've ever felt could really make it. Their front man, Sean Mercer, was runner up for Urban Outfitter's "Your Band Here" Contest so there's been a lot of buzz about that.

I feel like looking at these pictures much closer. They look so nice. Some of my favorite cities in Japan are Kyoto, Nara, Kanazawa Kobe, Takayama---many others.

Thanks, Photojoy. They took soooo long to cut, but it was worth it!

Lovely pics! I'm partial to Washington D.C. It's got the benefits of a big city as far as culture and restaurants go but it's not as harried as NYC. Oh, I heart it so. And Pasadena is beautiful. I did a tour of California many years ago and would love to go back!

I just love San Diego. Have you ever been down here? I also loved Venice and lots of other little towns in Italy. When we were in Israel we went to Joppa (where Jonah got spit out by the whale). It was the most amazing little city with lots of old brick and buildings with lots of character, and tons of modern art too.

I've been to Pasadena for the Rose parade, but I never go to look around, much less fall in love with it.

I haven't been around that much, but of the places I've visited, I would probably have to say San Diego, Pasadena, Seattle, and San Juan, P.R.

Confession: I have never been to Pasadena and I live maybe an hour or so from it. That's a shame. I need to plan a day trip!

Locally (So Cal) I love Long Beach/Belmont Shore. I'm finding myself spending more time there these days. All the old houses and you can walk everywhere.

From my travels: Amsterdam, Seattle, and Toronto. Oh definitely Toronto!
