Cupcakes and Tears

I tasted a lot of salt water this weekend - and it wasn't even from the beach. Don't you wish that tears tasted like cupcakes? Wouldn't that be wonderful?

Brian and I watched the movie "PS, I Love You" last night. Maki had posted about it on her blog, so we decided to give it a try. I was a blubbering mess through the whole movie! And it wasn't just little tears, I was sobbing. Big, ugly sobbing. The couple in the movie reminded me so much of Brian and me. There's a scene near the beginning where they're being playful with one another in their bedroom, and I swore that it could have been a scene out of a movie about me and Brian's life.

This morning I woke up with swollen eyes. They were so puffy that I looked like I had been in a boxing match. Not a pretty sight. To console myself because of my horrid appearance, I decided to bake some cupcakes. I made some delicious Butterscotch cupcakes, and was all set to make the icing, but didn't have all the ingredients I needed. I had some vanilla yogurt lying around, so I spooned that over the top and they tasted AMAZING! To make 18 of these little things, just melt 1/3 cup butter and mix it with 1/2 cup brown sugar and 1/2 cup white sugar. Then add 2 eggs, 1 1/2 cups flour, 1 1/2 teaspoons of baking powder, 1/4 teaspoon of salt, 1 teaspoon of vanilla, a handful of butterscotch chips, and a bit of white chocolate chips, and 1/2 cup of milk. Mix that all together and then spoon it into your cupcake tins and bake for 25 minutes at 350 degrees F.

Now this is what I wish tears tasted like!

Are there any movies that make you bawl? And when you do - what would you want your tears to taste like?

Haha. I'm trying to wrap my mind around your tears tasting like cupcakes. That it would be a little awkward to lick yourself like that.

One time I bawled during RENT. I don't know if it counts as a movie. I wouldn't consider myself an emotional movie watcher.

Oh, I'm totally with you bawling over that movie. Even my fiance got a little teary. I was also a bawling mess watching this Christian movie called "Fireproof" and "A Walk to Remember". Goodness, I'm such a sap!!!!

And great job on those cupcakes. I wish my tears tasted like that too, haha.

PS I don't think you've answered me. What are you bringing me? Baked goods will do.

I've been avoiding that movie just for that reason! Steel Magnolias gets me every time. I wish that tears tasted like strawberries and champagne.

I told you!!! LOL. That movie totally kills you from the beginning to the end!

I'm glad you got to see the movie - I think the film is so beautiful... I wish you could post your puffy eyes photo!!!

Send me some of those cupcakes to me!!

xoxo
p.s.
I want to know what did Brian think about the movie????

oh i havent actually watched the movie, but am literally dying to watch it now. I love sappy movies. Must get my hands on it.

I wish my tears tasted like icecream. But salty tears are a good idea, though. I dont want to find myself dehydrated after licking tears up. lol.

Eric - I will surprise you with something. Not sure what yet, but you'll see!

Maki - Brian LOVED it. He didn't think it was going to be good, but he was willing to sit through it for me, hehehehe. Don't tell him I told you, but he got teary-eyed! I didn't notice during the movie, because I was too consumed in the plot and trying to wipe away my own river of snot and tears. But after the movie when I asked him what he thought of it, he told me he got a little misty-eyed. I didn't believe him at first, because the whole time I have known him, I have only seen him cry once. But on closer inspection, I could see the tears in his eyelashes, and in the corners of his eyes!

p.s. I almost forgot; ditto with Kristin, Steel Magnolia does make me a sobbing mess. I wish my tears taste like peach or watermelon or guava... lol

Aww I'm glad to know Brian enjoyed it. I want JT to watch it with me - I can already hear him saying "No way.." But I truly hope he will do it for me. BTW, I've never see him cry at movies... Love you!

Steel Magnolias yes yes. That one gets me teary-eyed tho I will admit P.S. I love you did as well. I read the book long before the movie ever came out and IT made me tearful. I don't often cry at movies (except now that I'm pregnant...even commercials make me cry it's sick!) so these two are pretty touching movies. Those cupcakes sound SO DELICIOUS. I'm going to make them for a midnight snack ha!

omg. What movie do I not cry watching? I am such a bawler! haha. My latest movie I watched and cried during was Simon Birch. I know it's an older movie, but my Dad bought it for a couple of bucks and we watched it...

I wished tears tasted like my grandmother's blackberry tarts! ;]

E.T.! Gets me every time... I wish tears tasted like strawberry rhubarb pie. Mmmmm...

I might be weird, but I LOVE when a great movie makes me sob my eyes out...I don't mind the bitter salt of the tears, I love to feel that moved by film...I have cried at many movies, but "In America" really did it for me.

Dionne said...

It's not that I don't like the taste of tears, it's just that I cry in pretty much EVERY sad movie there is, hehehehe - so it would be nice to have some dessert in amongst the sob-fest, lol.

ha! some friends were JUST telling me about that movie and saying how much they cried too. i'm not a huge movie-cryer but maybe i should check it out.

also -- i'm with ya -- if i have to cry, i wish at least i could be tasting something sugary and delicious to ease the pain. chocolate chip cookie tears? anyone?

You know, I'm not your biggest Hillary Swank fan, but I watched that movie and just wept through it. Mostly because I was so afraid of ever being in her shoes and losing Steve that way. Cried like a baby, and when he came home I hugged him so tight!

I saw UP over the weekend...yeah...cried during the short film before it. Cried during the first ten minutes of the film, and twice more before the end. Bless you, PIXAR, you know how to make me weep.

Yes I did make that card, I like to make cards for friends and family instead of buying them. Thanks for the comments! Did you make these yummy looking cupcakes and take the pics?

Jordan Boesch said...

Oh...yes, I cried SO MUCH during that movie - it reminds me of me and my husband too. =) It's probably my favorite movie of all time! A recent movie I cried during was the last Matrix movie, lol. Probably silly, I know, but when Trinity dies...so sad.

Carlita said...

what's funny... is i hardly ever cry in chick flicks or sad movies. but with sports movies (like Friday Night Lights) i just sob! so bizarre, but that's what happens with me :)

i wish tears could taste like lemon drops. b/c they'd be tart (like real tears usually are) but with a sugary lemon aftertaste!

Brooke said...

Yes we were able to get in contact, I am very excited about this whole experience!

That's very cool that you do all the illustrations & take all the pics. You are one talented girl! I really need to take a illustrator class.

How do you know Carla (Carlita)? We had a photoshop class together and have stayed in touch since, that is how I found out about your blog (through her blog) :)

Yes, I think that's what I looked like at the end of that movie too. So good, but oh, so sad!

I like the way you cheered yourself up... you are a girl after my own heart.

Me too! SOBBING! And by myself, the fiance was, ah, averse to watching such a movie. But maybe better this way, less embarrassing for sure.

Thank you for leaving such nice comments on my blog!

Super sad movie... yes, I do remember blubbering most of the way through it. (Kind of like The Notebook in that sense!)

Those cupcakes... oh my. They look so tasty!

You used to live in California? So did I! Where are you from? I'm from a little city called Lake Elsinore, about 60 miles south of L.A.

I moved to DC two years ago for college. Sometimes I miss California. Mostly when it's snowing in DC or the humidity is at 90%. It was major culture shock moving to DC. People are nowhere near as friendly as they are in California! I think they must not be getting enough sunshine...

Lol, you are too much, I love the idea of vanilla yogurt as a topping your husband is so lucky, I wish I lived near you and could stop by when you get in a baking mood:)

Aw, I absolutely LOVE that movie! Even though I've seen it more than a couple times... it just seems to get to me every time. What a great idea to cheer up though than with a cupcake... they're just so cute & delicious, how could they not put a smile on your face! Great idea with the yogurt as frosting by the way.. I may have to try that sometime! <3
